So what if Roc Nation have signed AKA and Cassper Nyovest?

The internet has recently been talking about South African Wordsmiths AKA and Casper Nyovest being signed to Roc Nation and heads on the continent have been talking about how monumental this is. Funnily enough, there seems to be only one source of a statement from Jay Z about this and thats on a website called ondamic.com

Whether it’s true or not, lets dig a little deeper. The first question is, if indeed AKA and Cassper have been signed, what sort of deal is it. Is it a management deal, a publishing deal or is it as everyone seems to think a recording deal. A look at the Roc Nation shows a diversity of talent, but they are all signed under different categories for example, while Rihanna is signed to the label for music and management, Kanye is signed for management. Then again so is Meek Mill. J. Cole is signed to the label, but industry insiders say that Cole’s success has come mostly from his own efforts. In terms of the artists that are actually signed to the label the most notable successes are Rihanna, J.Cole and well, Jay Z. We are still waiting for Jay Electronica’s album and also DJ Mustard’s offering on Roc Nation. As a label, Roc Nation have had major success but are hardly prolific.

In terms of management, Artist like Big Sean, Kanye West, Emeli Sande and Fabulous stand out, Rihanna too. If AKA and Casper have signed management deals, will they get the attention that they feel they should deserve?

If its a publishing deal, well, that cool. Publishing is publishing, if you have a good publisher looking after your material you can make a lot of money and retain the creative control of your output. So is it a publishing deal the two SA rappers have signed?

Roc Nation have some great artists on their books, but are they a great record label? If the rumors are true, then AKA and Cassper are about to find out.

We wish them all the best.
